Cairngorm Navigation Course Information
The Cairngorms Navigation Course takes place on one of Scotland’s classic hillwalking challenges. This incredible loop takes in Northern Corries of Cairngorm Mountain as well as Cairngorm Itself.
This trip is suitable for those with previous hillwalking experience and a good level of fitness is required. We will instruct you throughout the day and improve your navigational skills.
*Routes can become more challenging in windy conditions. In some conditions, we may re-route to ensure the safety and well-being of the group.
Itinerary
- 9am meet at Cairngorm Mountain
- Introduction to the course and the aims.
- Practice Navigation (under guidance and instruction) on route taking the track towards Lurchers passing the bottom of the Northern corries.
- Navigate up onto the Plateau and around the tops of the northern Corries to the Summit of Cairngorm.
- Navigate down Windy Ridge back to the Van.
- Debrief with your instructor.

This course is moderately challenging and is a big day out in the mountains. A good level of fitness is required so that you can manage summiting the mountains.
If you fancy an amazing adventure in some of the most stunning mountains anywhere in Scotland with glorious terrain then this is the trip for you! This is also suitable for families who want to up skills their navigational skills in the remote Scottish Mountains with their children ages 10 and upwards.
We pride ourselves on providing as much kit as possible for you. However, the list below is what we recommend you should bring to your Cairngorm Navigation Course:
- Drink bottle/hot flask
- Compass
- Warm clothes.
- Walking Boots & Waterproofs
- Sunglasses/suncream
- Midge Repellent/Midge net
- Rucksack; 20Ltr or so
- Transport
Here at Highland Outdoor Adventures, we pride ourselves on providing as much as we can but you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you do prefer. The list below is what we provide you with on the Cairngorm Navigation Course.

- Photographs of the day provided for you at no extra cost! If the weather is good we will have a DSLR professional camera so we can take photos and videos of your adventure and you can look back at the day for years to come. If the weather is less favourable we will bring a GoPro (as it is waterproof) so we will still be able to take photos for you.
