Private Introduction To Climbing & Abseiling
A private climbing course in the Highlands of Scotland is a unique opportunity to learn and develop the skills necessary for these exhilarating activities while surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. This course is designed for all ability levels as it is tailored to each booking and is perfect for anyone up on holiday in the Aviemore & Cairngorms area. The course typically includes equipment selection and use, basic techniques for climbing and abseiling, and safety procedures. And all the technical equipment like harnesses, helmets, ropes etc is provided by us.
The course is led by experienced guides and instructors (members of AMI so you know they are certified as amongst the best in the whole world holding the highest possible awards for climbing & abseiling) who provide one-on-one instruction and support throughout the program. The Highlands of Scotland offer a variety of climbing and abseiling locations, each with its own set of challenges and rewards, making it an ideal location to learn and develop new skills.
Private Introduction To Climbing & Abseiling Itinerary
Here is a standard itinerary for a climbing course that might take place at Kingussie in the Highlands of Scotland:
Day 1:
- Meet and greet your instructor and any other participants on the course
- Introduction to equipment and an outline of the plan for the day based off a chat with you about your aims, aspirations and prior abilities.
- Basic climbing techniques and practice on beginner-level routes
- Lunch break
- Introduction to abseiling techniques and practice
- Review of the day and wrap-up
This itinerary provides participants with a full day of instruction. Throughout the day, instructors will emphasise safety procedures and provide guidance and feedback to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. By the end of the course, participants should have a good understanding of the basics of climbing and abseiling and be ready to tackle more challenging routes in the future.

The Highlands of Scotland offer a variety of climbing and abseiling opportunities, ranging from easy climbs for beginners to more challenging routes for experienced climbers. This Climbing takes place at Kingussie crag or Cairngorm Mountain but we have the ability to go to many other venues if weather dictates as such so you get the best day possible. Furthermore, the experience of climbing and abseiling in such a spectacular natural setting can provide a sense of accomplishment and connection with nature.
We pride ourselves on providing as much kit as possible for you. However, the list below is what we recommend you should bring to your Climbing Course:
- Travel insurance. (We are insured for all our trips, but we recommend everyone has their own travel insurance as well.)
- Transportation to the venue. (We may be able to help with this though – if you need transportation please drop us an enquiry and we can see what we can do to help.)
- Lunch, water.
- Personal medication
- Sun cream, midge net
- Waterproofs (it is Scotland after all)
- Sturdy footwear.
- Climbing shoes are recommended for more experienced climbers or those who are doing multi-pitch – if you don’t have any please let us know as we may be able to provide them.
